It was around nine p.m. when I received a phone call from a German speaking girl from St.Gallen. Her voice sounded very bad and she told me that there was no way that she would be able to take her exam, not only because of her fever, also because of her coughing. She was concerned she would disturb the other students. I asked her for her name and then saw in our system that she had chosen the Exam Retake Option (ERO). I told her not to worry, as she would get an ERO code from us and would be able to register again within 12 months without further costs. Needless to say, she was very happy. I wished her a speedy recovery!
The next morning on the day of the exams, at around five a.m., I was still on Help Desk call when the mother of a student from Bern called and told me that her son was ill and could not take the exam. In the system I saw that the candidate had chosen the “Basic” option (low exam fee, however, no retake option possible). Now, the mother told me that her son urgently needed to retake the exam for his Matura. I told her that retaking the exam is no problem, but he would have to pay the full fee again. Obviously, the mother was not very happy. I could hear her asking her son in the background why he had not chosen this option. In any case, the candidate was at least able to register immediately in his region due to our offer of so many dates in so many regions across Switzerland.
The essence of the two stories is that the girl now paid CHF 400.- in total for two exams, and the other candidate, who initially chose the “Basic” fee, CHF 699.- plus late registration fee. We have designed these packages to offer attractive options to candidates. From all the feedback we have received from students and teachers thus far, our 12-month ERO is very well received.
